Rivers to Ranges FW2 Results

Rivers to Ranges Field Weekend two was the first of our open weekends with 27 members fishing. Half the members took the opportunity to travel beyond the club boundaries while the other half chose to stay local. Of those who travelled, some found more fish than others, with the stand outs being Andy Brooks with a great mixed bag of snapper, gurnard, trevally, kahawai and blue moki and the Benge boys, James and Xavier, with some solid snapper and trevs from the far north. The other fish of note, and a very rare catch for any surfcaster was Kevin’s red moki (1.21kg) which I believe is a new club record. Good numbers of fish were also weighed by those who chose to fish our local waters, with the most notable being Sue Kemsley’s 1.05kg gurnard. Mark Roberts scored 2 solid snapper and a nearly 2kg trevally from TeAwanga and Rex nailed the first kingfish of the season weighing 5.2kg.
In total 97 fish were weighed, consisting of: 38 kahawai, 34 snapper, 7 trevally, 7 gurnard, 6 red cod, 2 barracouta, 1 red moki, 1 blue moki and a kingfish.
Four pin fish crossed the scales. Sue K, gurnard (1.05), Mark R, trevally (1.96), Andy B, blue moki (3.36) and Kane, kahawai (2.59). Well done!
Rivers to Ranges prize winners were: Heaviest snapper, James B. Heaviest gurnard, Sue K. Heaviest other went to Rex’s kingfish. Heaviest junior, Xavier B for his snapper and average weight kahawai went to Dion. Congratulations to all and thanks again to Rivers to Ranges for their generous sponsorship.
Just another reminder. Please present your fish at weigh in in clean condition. Fish covered in sand is not cool and run the risk of not being weighed…
Field weekend 3 is on the 18th- 19th November. Good luck.
Tight lines, Hamish.
