Field weekend eight was kindly sponsored by Hunting and Fishing Napier and had an earlier start time of 6pm Friday. This was fortunate as Friday evening produced the best conditions of the weekend. Those who travelled north fared better than the members who stayed local with some nice bags of Snapper and Kahawai coming from Whakaki and Mohaka.
Twenty members fished with 77 fish crossing the scales. Kahawai (36) and Snapper (33) making up the majority of those.
The only pin fish of the weekend went to Kane for his 2.89kg Kahawai. The jackpot prize for a Kingfish over 85cm was not struck and jackpots to field week 9.
The awesome prizes from Hunting and Fishing went to the following people. Heaviest snapper, Tareq, 3.38kg. Heaviest Gurnard, Kane 0.71kg. Best other, George, SSH 4.81kg. Average Kahawai, Hamish 1.79kg.
Field weekend 9 starting on February 29 and is the Pania Shield comp with Gisborne and Wairoa kicking off at 5am Saturday with the weigh in at the Whakaki carpark 9am Sunday. Boundaries are north of the Wairoa river to south of the Nuhaka stream. Let’s get a big team up there to win the shield!
